JOHN DEFARO | SPECIAL PROJECTS | BISCAYNE BLVD.

FAMOUS OUTSIDE with Green Religion, 2025 | Eco-vinyl typography window installation | 80 × 252”

FAMOUS OUTS[EYE]D

Presented as part of the evolving platform greenreligion.com, John DeFaro transforms the Biscayne Boulevard façade of the Gold Dust Motel into a typographic installation linking art, ecology, and perception. The phrase spans each tall window of the street-side first floor, rendered in the Green Religion logotype font Unbounded in bright aqua green. Both FAMOUS and OUTS [EYE] D appear in this vivid tone, with the missing “I” and “E” replaced by a green and black eye graphic, a meditation on visibility, attention, and the act of seeing beyond ourselves.

Reimagining Andy Warhol’s idea of fame through an eco-spiritual context, DeFaro redirects the gaze toward the living world, the trees, the air, and the inclusive canopy that unites all beings, suggesting that true recognition belongs to nature itself.

About John DeFaro

An astute observer of the natural world, John DeFaro is recognized for his mastery of color and accomplished draftsmanship. His assemblages, installations, performances, and design work balance precision with emotional clarity and activism. He has exhibited at the Miami-Dade Public Library System, Miami-Dade Kendall Gallery, Boca Raton Museum of Art, and the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, among other venues. DeFaro also participated in Feria Clandestina 2023, presenting Green Paintings and the performance piece Sew Me with Niurca Márquez.

Fulano, Inc. Miami co-developed the identity and art direction of greenreligion.com, which reflects DeFaro’s vision of unity between culture and ecology. The website shares stories of artists, scholars, and scientists implementing eco-conscious approaches within their practices and professions, advancing a dialogue where creativity and environmental awareness intersect.

The content emerges through collaborations with other artists and contributors who enjoy writing and supporting fellow creatives.

An anticipated Green Religion online shop will expand that mission further, offering high-nature designs and eco-aware merchandise that sustain both the message and the ambition.

At its heart, Green Religion advances climate justice and empathy through ecological awareness. DeFaro serves as a panelist for the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and as a Tropical Audubon Ambassador, promoting environmental stewardship in South Florida. His honors include grants from the Miami Artist Relief Fund, MAS! Artist Grant, Oolite Arts COVID Relief Grant, and Americans for the Arts. His ongoing project, FREE AIR, developed through the Green Space Miami Open Call Award (2024–2025), brought together collaborators Niurca Márquez and Nick Gilmore in eco-art and meditation workshops, continuing his mission to unite creative practice with care, awareness, and community healing.
